Dukeries on the way to 'Good'

The Dukeries Academy on the way to good

The Dukeries Academy in New Ollerton, Newark is on its way to becoming ‘good’ according to a recent visit by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate.

The visit on 12 January 2016 was the second monitoring inspection since its latest full Ofsted inspection in October 2014.

The inspector noted that ‘senior leaders, governors and Academy Transformation Trust (ATT) are taking effective action to tackle the areas requiring improvement identified at the recent HMI inspection in order to become a good school.’

During the visit, the inspector met with Principal Ian Barton and the senior leadership team. She also spoke with the Chair of the Governing Body, the Improvement Director for the Academy Transformation Trust and a group of pupils, including sixth form learners.

Leadership capacity has improved, according to the inspector, who stated that ‘talented new senior and middle leaders at the academy now feel able to drive further improvement at the rapid pace that is required.’

The academy was also recognised for their robust data and assessment systems.

Pupils were praised for their behaviour and said that they felt like there was now a ‘combined effort between teachers and pupils’ to make sure they do their best.

Academy Transformation Trust and governors were cited for the effective support and challenge that they provide to senior leaders.

Principal, Ian Barton, commented: “I am incredibly pleased that our continued progress has been recognised.

“We have a clear plan in place to improve even further and we know that there is more hard work ahead but this is what we must do to provide the very best educational opportunities for our young people.

“We know what we want to achieve and we know what we must do to make it happen.

“Thank you to staff, pupils and parents for their hard work and support on our journey to good and outstanding.”
